Project: Pyramid of Engagement: New Strategies in Volunteer Management Audience: Association of Fundraising Professionals/DC Description: Featured luncheon speaker in February 2008. Attracted high number of members to hour-long interactive session that challenged conventional thinking on building volunteers and leadership from within the organization.
Client: Association of Fundraising Professionals/DC Project: Board Retreat Module Developed: Pyramid of Volunteer Engagement Description: AFP/DC depends on volunteers to run its large number of programs annnually. Faced with significant program challenges to meet the needs of a diverse and growing membership, AFP/DC also faced a decline in volunteers to chair and support its programs. The "Pyramid" module delivered engaged board members in understanding and prioritizing volunteer challenges, and creating a volunteer management program to better recruit, motivate, sustain and reward volunteer participation.
Client: Greater Washington Sports Alliance (GWSA) Project: 2007 Wirefly National Marathon Description: Hired in project staffing capacity, Sandra led media relations and communications efforts for this start-up national sporting event. As public spokesperson for the event, Sandra was interviewed frequently by print, broadcast and electronic media reporters on issues ranging from the business and emergency services impact of the citywide course, resident concerns about traffic management, and opportunities for volunteer and race participation. She served as GWSA's liasion with official media partners, helping guide live television coverage. Press releases, media and race guides, and community outreach messages were crafted to show citywide impact at community level, and value of community involvement and sports events in a dynamic city like Washington,DC.
