Sandra M. Walter, Chief StrategistSandra Walter-Steinberg works to strengthen the capacity of non-profit organizations toward sustainable   growth that results in increased mission-related impact. Her client honor roll includes health, social and economic justice, environmental, women’s, advocacy and animal-rights organizations that are structured as trade association, charitable, membership, advocacy and chapter-based organizations.  Her clients include the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation, Greater Washington Sports Alliance, Autism Society of America, Association of Fundraising Professionals/DC, Capital City Charter School, Healthcare Distribution Management Association Foundation, National Academy of Public Administration and U.S. Green Building Council.

Sandra's consulting practice is based on an approach to organizational growth she has developed over 20 years of experience which is centered on providing leadership and management with actionable, measurable plans that integrate all facets of the organizations in a comprehensive strategy for achieving defined goals. 

Sandra facilitates AFP/DC Board of Directors through her "Pyramid of Volunteer Engagement" workshop.Ms. Walter-Steinberg has held senior staff positions in development and communications at the DC Agenda Support Corporation, Business and Professional Women (BPW)/USA and the BPW/USA Foundation.  She started her career with B’nai B’rith Women (now Jewish Women International),  where she directed its $3 million Annual Fund. 

Her professional affiliations include the Consultants Consortium, Association of Fundraising Professionals and Association Foundation Group.

Sandra holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the Kogod School of Business at American University, she currently serves on the board of The American Unversity Alumni Association. Each year she serves as a judge for American Unversity's Business Case Competition.

For fun, Sandra takes photographs, does letterpress and paints in watercolor; has completed the Portland, Oregon Marathon and been SCUBA diving at the Great Barrier Reef; climbed the Sydney (Australia) Harbor Bridge and participated in try-outs for the Jeopardy television show.   

As a volunteer, Sandra provides meals for Calvary Women's Services and donates platelets at the National Institutes of Health.

Sandra recently married Craig R. Steinberg, an e-learning and training specialist, and a docent at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.  Sandra and Craig share their home with Mel the Dog.
